Welcome

The Gainesville Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization that serves Gainesville and the surrounding areas in North Central Florida by promoting and facilitating philanthropy. We are dedicated to strengthening relationships among charitable organizations, donors, and concerned citizens who want to invest in our region's future. The Foundation builds and preserves a permanent endowment established from the gifts of individuals and institutions. Giving to the Foundation is easy and beneficial to both the community and the donor.

The Foundation enables donors to connect with the community's needs and provide a permanent source of funding for local agencies. We work with donors to ensure that their charitable gifts will be directed in the most efficient and desirable way possible. Donors may enjoy the freedom of determining the causes they feel are most deserving of their donation, and are able to determine how the funds are allocated. Donors benefit from the tax-deductibility of chartable giving.

The Foundation offers the flexibility of a variety of funds. Donors may opt to give to an Unrestricted Fund. An Unrestricted Fund may be used to aid charities, or to help the community in areas where no other help is available. Donors can also choose to direct their charitable gifts by establishing or contributing to a Restricted Fund. Gifts can be made to a Field of Interest Fund, which enables donors to select a general area of interest to be benefited. By establishing a Donor Designated Fund or a Donor Advised Fund, donors may also choose to specify the agency that will benefit. A charitable organization that wishes to establish its own endowment fund to ensure its financial stability for the future can do so with an Agency Endowment.

The Gainesville Community Foundation has flexible grantmaking capabilities, and is able to respond to community needs that are not met by traditional grantmaking organizations. The Foundation's areas of interest are limited only by the requirement that they be used for scientific, educational, religious, or other charitable purposes, so donors may choose any cause to benefit. The perpetuity of an endowment will allow the Foundation to continue supporting the community for years to come.
